Sports Camp.

Today Truman finished up a week long sports camp that was held at our local middle school every morning.  He got to learn some karate, run soccer drills, do some tumbling and even swim.  I was really proud of him for going and having such a good time - he didn't know any other kids there when he started at the beginning of the week.
Each day he came home with a little craft - this was my favorite one.
I feel like he has grown up so much this summer, he has become more independent and I like that.

24th of July 5K.

My friend Tami and I have been running together for the last month or so in the evenings.  She is training for a big RAGNAR race in Las Vegas in the late fall and I am training for a 10K at Swiss Days.  We decided to sign up for the Charleston 5K for a little motivation .
I didn't want to wake up Gregg before the race so I left this note on Pete so he would know that I had nursed Pete before I left.  I was trying to decide where to put the note so Gregg would see it - I figured on Pete was the most obvious :)
We documented a lot of our runs with pictures at the end!
One night we finished our run in a huge rain storm in the dark, we were drenched by the time we made it back to our cars.  We tried so hard to get a good picture of the lightening but never succeeded.  I like Tami's instagram shot above.
We sometimes have to pull out or phone's and take picture because it is so beautiful.  This is what we have named 'the Charleston route' It is actually part of the 5K race route, we have run it a lot of nights because the scenery is so pretty are we hardly ever see any cars go by.  Tami and I have had some good long chats about life, parenting, motherhood and religion while running these back country roads - I love it.
In motion.
I took this picture as I was leaving my driveway one night.
Now on to our next running goals.

Alpine Slide.

Today we had an impromptu trip to Park City Mountain Resort to enjoy the Alpine Slide with friends.
Some of Gregg's mission friends {and Elder Gregg served with and his wife who was a sister missionary from his mission} called to tell us they would be in Park City for they day.  We were excited to meet up with them and spend the afternoon together.
It was a warm and beautiful summer day in Park City,
Ryan and Heather have three girls and we have three boys so it is kind of fun when we get together because Ryan get's to hang out with the boys and I join the girls!
Heather and her girls.
Truman was my driver - we had a blast.
After the alpine slide and some slushies the Romano's came over to Midway to see our new house and have dinner.  We had fun catching up, making plans {!}, and watching the kids play in the yard together.

Thanks Romano's for a fun summer afternoon.

Million Dollar Driveway.

Over the winter and especially this spring we had some major settlement issues around three sides of our house.  More specifically the three sides where there was a 22 foot hole dug for the indoor basketball court.
The pictures don't really do justice - the only perspective you can see is where the rock ends on the house and then there is a gap between the dirt and rock.  It was about 3 feet worth of settlement.
In this picture you can see where the grass sunk in toward the house - all the trees and bushes had to come out - it was really sad.
This is what our front steps and driveway looked like.  It was really sad too and quit dangerous.
It was slowly sinking this spring but then almost overnight it sunk a few feet - it was about the exact same time Pete was born.
Our excavator came over lickity-split to tear out the driveway for us and put down some gravel.
This poor driveway of ours, I am calling it the 'million dollar driveway'.  Last fall it took us FOREVER to get it poured, the original concrete guy that we hired disappeared on us and would not return any phone calls.  We had such a wet fall last year that all the concrete companies were so backed up - getting our driveway poured originally started to hold up our landscaping.

We finally found a guy in Park City to come lay it for us and then THIS happened.
And now this spring a huge chunk of it had to come out do to settlement issues.  We should have just gone with the pavers like we wanted in the first place - it would have been more cost effective a this point.
We had to get another dump truck full of dirt to fill in the settlement around the house and then everything had to be compacted.
It was so hard to see our landscaping being ruined that we just finished last fall :(
This is what the front looked like right around the time Pete was born, so warm and inviting!
More top-soil.
The boys stood outside and watched our new steps and driveway be poured for hours.
Hopefully now we don't have anymore problems :)

National Ice Cream Day.

Today is National Ice Cream day!
Our friends the Fife's invited some families over tonight for homemade ice cream to celebrate.

Brandon Fife's Homemade Ice cream
2/3 cup sugar
1 quart half and half
vanilla

It really is the best basic vanilla ice cream you can make, then you can add whatever you want to the base.  Today we had a crushed chocolate candy bar as one flavor and fresh strawberries and blonde Oreo cookie as the other {which was amazing}!
